Habitat is a building in Dragon City, which acts as a home for dragons with the same element once hatched. Different types of Habitats exist for each different element, and a dragon must be placed into a Habitat that corresponds with its own element. Dragons with more than one element can be placed in either type of Habitat. For Example, the Volcano Dragon could be placed in either Terra or Flame habitat.

Trivia

  • Almost All basic habitats have a 4×4 size grid
    • the exception is the Legend Habitat, which requires a 6×6 space instead.
  • Before elemental tokens were introduced to the game (which is back in version ???), each habitat only has 2 levels : "small" or "big" (which is equivalent to "Level 1" and "Level 2", respectively)
    • During Version ???, the shop will only offer the Big version of each habitat (and remove the Small version) once the player reached the minimum level to build them.
    • However, habitats for ancient elements still using "Small" and "Big" terms (which means they only have 2 levels)
      • This also implies that elemental token for ancient elements does NOT exist in the game.
  • Before Version ???, the price for duplicated habitat is constant. For example, the 5th Terra habitat has the same cost as the 2nd Terra habitat. It stays the same, no matter how many copies the player has.
    • However, the pricing system was changed. As you can see in the table above, each copy will become pricier, as the player builds more habitat with the same element. This new system ensures the cost for each habitat could keep up and match with the player's progress throughout the game. Please click here to view the FAQ article about this new Habitat pricing system at the Social Point Player Support.
      • One thing this new system keeps from the old one is the fact that the price for habitats with early elements is cheaper, compared to later elements (assuming both of them have the same level). For example, the Nature habitat will always be less pricey than the Dark habitat.
  • Before Version ???, Ice Habitats and Metal Habitats need some assistance from the player's friends before it could store dragons. Alternatively, the player could use some Gems to substitute them.
    • However, upgrading them to their bigger version doesn't require the same thing, unlike their basic version.
    • Some other buildings (such as the Stadium) in the past share the same requirement before being fully functional.
  • Before Version ???, Sea and Ice habitats used to store only 1 dragon at Level 1, unlike other habitats with the same level (which stores 2 dragons).
    • The same thing applies to their bigger version, where both of them could only store 3 dragons (instead of 4)

Using Big Habitats to Level-Up

Habitats can be used to earn XP at a faster and cheaper rate than that of a Farm. If you aren't really into collecting dragons, or just want to level up quick to be able to use items that unlock at higher levels, you can use your disposable income to level up this way. This is best accomplished when you have large amounts of recurring disposable income.

Instructions: Per your level, look for the habitat with the lowest (smallest) number in the "Gold Cost per XP" Column and the highest number in the "XP Per Minute" column.  For instance, at level 17 the Big Nature Habitat only costs 1 gold per XP gained, at a rate of 1041.66 XP per minute, over the course of 2 hours. The Big Nature Habitat of course would cost you 125K gold, so if that isn't feasible, look for the next best match. The Big Terra Habitat can be pretty enticing at 5000 XP per minute, but you are paying 10 Gold per XP, and you have to gauge whether you are willing to sit there 30 seconds at a time for long periods of time to make it worthwhile.

Note 1: This process may involve building, then immediately selling/storing the habitats (I'd recommend storing them), as you may run out of space.  This process is solely geared toward earning the most XP possible at the lowest cost possible, and is not considering how much each habitat can hold from Dragons.

Note 2: While the Gold Cost Per XP of Big Habitats are less cost effective, the Big Habitats offer lower purchase costs if you don't yet have a large amount of recurring Gold from your inhabited Habitats.  Once you have 450K Gold to spend on a frequent basis (and are level 26 or higher), it is recommended you start using the aformentioned process with Light Habitats (NOT Big Light, but the Basic version).  See the Basic Habitats tab.

Trivia

  • These habitats were released in the Ancient World and used only for Ancient World Dragons.
  • When the Ancient World was first released on mobile, 3 habitats only were available which were Beauty, Magic and Chaos , then after a while Happy and Dream became also available and at last Soul was released.
  • The time of releasing a habitat is the same as releasing it's dragons : the soul habitat weren't available as there wasn't any soul dragons released yet, but when they were added it became available.

Warning: The Habitat counts against your total habitat limit and can not be stored! I.e., once you get it, you keep it permanently, but your maximum number of other habitats is limited to 37! (There is no downside in gaining the Island, though the only thing that can be built upon it is a Dungeon Habitat) The Dungeon Habitat can be obtained through The Dungeon event.

Bug Warning

This habitat starts as a floating island between the Ivory and Lava islands.  It can be moved and placed on any island, but once there, it becomes stuck. It can be moved to other places, but not returned to its original position.  For more information, see The Dungeon/Docking.

Storing the Habitat

There is only one known way to place this habitat in storage.  If you have the maximum number of habitats at the time you acquire the habitat, it will go to storage.  THIS CAN ONLY HAPPEN AT THE END OF STAGE 2!
